Kinmount House is a Palladian house in Dumfries and Galloway with a lake, woodland paths and a tree-lined drive that sets the tone before you have got out of the car. Em and Jen eloped there in July 2023. Two people, a celebrant, a photographer and me, and a house that would hold two hundred. The scale of the place against the size of the day is what makes that film.
Gretna Hall is a manor from 1710 in the middle of Gretna Green. Misha and Daniel married there in February 2025, a candlelit ceremony room, a photo booth, and the two of them treating the day as an afternoon out with a few people they loved. Misha said afterwards that they enjoyed hanging out with me, which is about the best review a filmmaker at an elopement can get.
I have not yet filmed in the Highlands or on the west coast, and I would like to. Scotland north of Glasgow is on the list of places I would travel for on my own account.
Scottish weddings, big or small, have a formality in them that I like. The ceilidh, the piper, the handfasting. The traditions give a film its structure.
I'm Chris Oxley. I film weddings at country houses and private estates across the UK.
I started this because when I got married in 2015, we didn't have a videographer. I wanted to build something I wished had existed for us. Films that hold up years later. A real record of a real day, not a montage of prompted moments.
I handle the consultation, the filming, the edit, the grade, and the delivery. I film a limited number of weddings a year, and I'm personally at every one.

Two shapes, in my experience. The elopement or micro-wedding at a house or a hotel, everything within one building, the day unhurried and the film intimate. And the full Scottish wedding, ceremony and reception at an estate, kilts and a ceilidh band and a hundred and fifty guests.
Both are destination weddings for most of the people at them. Guests arrive the day before. The wedding is a weekend.
Scottish law lets you marry almost anywhere with a celebrant, which is why the country gets so many elopements. A ceremony on a loch shore or in a walled garden is possible here in a way it is not in England.
Many wedding videographers arrive with a shot list. I don't. I arrive early, stay quiet, and pay attention. The film comes from what actually happens. I might offer the occasional quiet prompt when it matters, but I'm not staging moments or running through the same poses as everyone else.
I tend to work with couples based in and around London who want something honest. A real record of a real day. Not a highlight reel built from the same five moments as everyone else's.
I film fifteen weddings a year. That number lets me edit every film personally, respond to every email myself, and still show up fully present on your day. Every frame graded and cut by me. No outsourced editing. No house style.

If you are eloping, think about what you want to do with the rest of the day. The ceremony is twenty minutes. A walk, a meal, a drive somewhere: the film needs the afternoon as much as the vows.
Book the piper and the ceilidh band before the venue is even confirmed if you want particular ones. The good ones go a year out.
The weather forecast in Scotland is a suggestion. Have a room you would be happy to marry in.
If your ceremony has a handfasting or a quaich, tell your celebrant and me where you will stand for it. Small ceremonies are easy to film badly if everyone is in a knot.
