Mitton Hall sits in the Ribble Valley with the kind of unhurried quiet that makes it one of Lancashire's most considered wedding venues. I'd filmed at Holmes Mill and Eaves Hall before arriving here, so there was a familiarity to the welcome. Same care, different character.
Peter and Phil's wedding was one of the most considered days I've filmed in Lancashire. Peter works in floristry and knows the wedding industry from the inside. It showed. Every room had been approached the way a set designer would approach it, deep greens and rich, warm colours that gave the venue a completely different atmosphere to anything I'd seen there before.
The day ran in two parts. A quiet legal ceremony in the morning, just the two of them. Then, later, a celebrant-led celebration with close to 200 guests, multiple readings, and a traditional handfasting. Two very different rhythms to the day, and both worth filming.
Lancashire in November does what it wants. Rain stayed for most of it, but there was a window in the afternoon that gave us everything we needed outside. You learn to read the light and move when it arrives.
Mitton Hall's interiors are atmospheric and low on light, which demands patience and the right approach technically. By the time the dance floor opened, the room had the particular warmth that comes from a day that's been genuinely lived rather than performed for the camera.
