Unique Aspects of Private Property Wedding Videography

Private property weddings operate differently than commercial venues. Some of the most beautiful, most personal weddings happen at family estates, inherited land, rented properties, tipi venues, marquees on farmland - locations chosen because of their meaning to the couple rather than their position in the wedding industry. These weddings often allow for genuine creative freedom. Couples are not constrained by venue rules and formal layouts. They can design their day around what actually matters to them.

Private property weddings often feature more intimate guest lists, more unconventional structures, and stronger connection to landscape and family history. But they require different filming approaches. A private estate wedding videographer needs to be genuinely adaptable - you might film a tipi wedding on grassland, a marquee wedding on a hill, a family estate wedding with no formal venue infrastructure, a private barn with no venue team. You are working with property owners, not venue coordinators. Logistics are more complex. Contingencies are more important. Understanding the unique character of each location is essential.

The Filmmaker

One person.
The full picture.

I'm Chris Oxley. I film weddings at country houses and private estates across the UK.

I started this because when I got married in 2015, we didn't have a videographer. I wanted to build something I wished had existed for us. Films that hold up years later. A real record of a real day, not a montage of prompted moments.

I handle the consultation, the filming, the edit, the grade, and the delivery. Fifteen weddings a year, and I'm personally at every one.

Why have a wedding in Private Property.

Private property couples value meaning and authenticity above all else. They have chosen their location because it matters to them - it is their family land, their friend's property, a location with significance. They are not choosing based on venue reputation. They are making personal decisions. Many are creative, unconventional thinkers who deliberately reject commercial venue options.

They tend to have clear visions for their day and want a videographer who adapts to their specific approach rather than applying a standard format. Private property couples are often willing to solve logistical challenges because the location is worth it. They expect someone equally adaptable - someone who works creatively with variable layouts, limited infrastructure, and unconventional structures. They want someone who understands the uniqueness of their location and documents that authentically.

The Difference

Your day first.
Your film, a close second.

Many wedding videographers arrive with a shot list. I don't. I arrive early, stay quiet, and pay attention. The film comes from what actually happens. I might offer the occasional quiet prompt when it matters, but I'm not staging moments or running through the same poses as everyone else.

I tend to work with couples based in and around London who want something honest. A real record of a real day. Not a highlight reel built from the same five moments as everyone else's.

I film fifteen weddings a year. That number lets me edit every film personally, respond to every email myself, and still show up fully present on your day. Every frame graded and cut by me. No outsourced editing. No house style.

The Best Decision for our Wedding

"We don’t even know where to start! Hiring Chris to shoot our wedding video was the BEST decision we made for our wedding. From the first meeting we had to discuss his style and approach, we knew we were on to the right person. Chris’ attention to detail is parallel to none."

Worth Every Penny

"We weren’t originally going to get a videographer but it was worth every penny. The whole day is so much to process that you forget bits after. Having this video to treasure forever was the perfect way to cure the wedding blues."

We Felt Completely Comfortable

"Before meeting Chris, we weren’t sure how to appear on film. After working with him, we felt completely comfortable, and he captured every organic moment we wanted."

EVERY BOOKING INCLUDES BOTH

Two films. One is the emotional hit - a film that puts you straight back in the room. As long as it needs to be, not a second longer. The other is the full day, preserved. Every usable moment I filmed, in order, so nothing is lost to the edit. The film brings you back. The archive lets you stay.

The Creative Piece

My edit, my instinct, my read of your day. Graded, set to music, no fixed runtime. Some films are five minutes. Some are fifteen. It depends on what unfolds.

Private Property wedding planning tips.

Private properties require detailed advance planning and coordination. You are working directly with property owners, not established venue coordinators. Understand access, parking, power availability, weather contingencies, facilities, and any restrictions. Conduct a detailed pre-wedding site visit if possible. Identify filming locations, understand weather exposure, plan equipment movement and positioning.

Private estates often offer exceptional evening light - fewer restrictions mean you can follow light and capture moments more fluidly. Plan real contingencies around weather - private properties might not have indoor backup ceremony spaces. Tipi weddings offer beautiful light diffusion but present acoustic challenges. Marquee weddings have light management issues. Farmland locations present open, dramatic landscape but weather exposure. Each type requires different preparation.

Multi-camera setups often work well because you want ceremony moments, guest reactions, and location detail simultaneously. Drone footage can be powerful at private estates with dramatic landscape, but understand airspace restrictions and wind exposure. Colour grading should enhance the specific location character rather than impose a standard look.
